It may sound weird that there are proper ways to wash towels. Depending on their colour and material, you should use right techniques of cleaning if you want them last longer. With these few tips, your towels will look and feel fresh.
Very first wash
Keep in mind that you should wash towels right before using them for the first time. New towels usually have finishes and silicon that came from the factory. If you don’t remove these unnecessary things by washing, it will absorb less moisture.
During the first few washings, towels should be washed with similar coloured towels. Avoid using too much detergent, the towel won’t be clean enough even after rinsing. In order to know the proper amount, read instructions on the detergent carefully, because each detergent has different amount of usage for different textiles.
Use cold water
According to the professionals, the low temperatures prevent shrinking, keeps a fresh colour and work very well on some spots.
Wash your towel twice a week
Are you hesitating when to wash your towels: today or later? Since towels keep tons of bacteria and microbes, washing it often is crucial. Some researchers said that “If you wipe your face with a bath towel just 2 days after washed your it, you will get more E-Cole on your face than putting your head in a toilet”.
If you have a time and space, try to dry off your towels naturally. Because over-drying in a dryer machine could damage fibres of the towels and it will lessen absorbency property. Also they won’t be soft anymore.
Don’t wash with clothes
Washing towels separately from clothes is ideal. I highly recommend not to wash them together for some sanitary reasons. Also washing towels with towels will help you select the proper setting on washing machine and right amount of detergent or softener you should use.
After just getting the towels out of the washer/dryer shake them very well.It will make them soft and will remove little strings left from washing machine.
Don’t use them to remove makeup
Makeup (especially eyeliner, lipstick, eye shadow and concealer) can cause a permanent stain on a fabric as most of make up products are made to make bold colours on skin.
